Dental InsuranceIn some areas of the country, it is difficult to get access to an NHS dentist – they either do not exist or they tell you the all too familiar statement ‘our patient list is full’. As a result, private dental care is often the only option available, but with the price of treatment high, dental insurance can ensure that you are not left with a large dentist bill. Dental insurance can cover a wide range of things including routine visits to emergencies. In the case of routine dental treatments, these will apply to dental visits carried out by a dentist or hygienist and at the dentist surgery itself. Emergencies could range from tooth aches to more severe problems that might involve bleeding. Other things that they can cover are injuries where all kind of costs could apply such as surgery fees and hospital charges. Finally issues such as fractures, the need for reconstructive surgery (distinct from cosmetic surgery) and others are also included. If you are insured for routine check ups you can hope that any problems will be found fast and you will not need to use the cover on any of the emergency treatments. Having good dental hygiene is something everyone should have access to and it certainly is not something to be taken lightly as dental problems can affect areas beyond your mouth, especially if a mouth injury is so bad it prohibits eating. Those with dental insurance can clearly have access to private dental care and when the choice of this is combined with the choice of the NHS, the doors are opened and flexibility becomes the norm. Getting to choose the dentist you visit would seem like a luxury to some people and it should be noted that even if you go private you can still visit an NHS patient. What usually happens is you pay for the treatment when the bill is presented and then claim the money back from the insurer at a later date. A lot of policies do not require a check up beforehand either with premiums being set based on your age. When paying out, insurance will not cover the entirety of the cost, but will instead pay around three quarters of the cost. The advice would be to shop around.
